Hot to Trot Trail Work Day – Corrected Date!

2009 July 1
by getguts

We’ll be clearing some overgrown trails at the Clyde Shepherd Nature Preserve on Sunday, July 19, from 8:00 am to 12:00 noon, focusing on the sewer/creek trail. GUTS will provide water and a light lunch (subs).

Please bring your own work gloves and Implements of Destruction (IOD). Suggested IODs are: pruners, lopers, hatchet/axes, hand saws, machetes. Be sure to mark you IOD so that it doesn’t end up in my car, and eventually my work shed.

It is strongly suggested that you wear long pants and long sleeves. The trail is full of poison ivy and blackberry vines. Also, while no yellow jackets have been spotted, I’m 100% sure that they are there. If you are allergic, please tell someone and bring any meds you may need. Don’t make us perform a tracheotomy with a rusty IOD!

The preserve is located at 2580 Pine Bluff Dr., Decatur, GA 30033.

Please rsvp to hottotrot@getguts.com so we may plan accordingly.

Volunteers needed for GUTS Trail Work Day & Training Run- Sunday, May 10

Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park
Kennesaw Mountain has a great trail system that’s perfect for long training runs. As a way to give back to the community, GUTS has partnered with the park to adopt a section of the trail. GUTS volunteers set out 2-3 times per year to check on the upkeep and make sure the trail is well maintained.

On Sunday, May 10th, we will gather again for a little muscle-building trail work. We are asking all volunteers to meet at 9:00 a.m. at the Visitor’s Center to help with apx. 3-4 hours of work. There’s no need to bring anything besides work gloves, long pants or socks and your enthusiasm! For those interested in a little more energy burning, we will meet earlier at 7:15 a.m. at the Visitor Center for a run before the work begins. This is a great opportunity to help your community and earn volunteer credits needed for any of your upcoming Ultra events! Not to mention the warm fuzzy feeling you’ll get after it’s all done.

To top off the day, GUTS will then host a cookout immediately following the trail work at the Prez’s house. Please RSVP via e-mail to GetGuts@hotmail.com with the subject line ‘I’ll make a difference’ by Friday, May 8th so we can provide food and beverages for all!

Wear it proudly…GUTS apparel available soon!

Within the next week, GUTS will have several cotton t-shirts available in different sizes & colors. Solid colors for only $10 and Tie-Dye versions for $15. All shirts will be printed with the GUTS logo on the front. Shirts will be for sale at upcoming events and group runs. Be sure to pick one up and show people you belong to the ‘coolest’ trail running club around
